Travel to USA

Plan early, but do not buy tickets till you get the visa. You may find other students headed towards the same University and plan to travel together.

Selecting an airline

You can never go wrong with the cheapest airline, but there are other factors to consider.
      Connection to your final destination
      Weight limits for luggage
Stopover duration and transit visa requirement. Do not fly via a country that requires a transit visa for your nationality
Availability of your choice of food - Vegetarian, Vegan, etc.

Preparations

Call your airline to confirm your seat. Check in the last 48 hours for any change in flight schedule. Weigh your luggage to make sure your bags are within the specified weight limits. All airlines have different weight limits.

Carrying cash and coins!

You should carry some US Dollars in cash for your transit expenses and immediate expenses on the arrival in the US. There are limits on how much cash you can carry in US and out of your own country. Anyway it is not safe to carry a lot of cash. A few hundred dollars should be enough for initial expenses.

Public phones in US use coins and may accept only the 25 cents coin, known as 'quarters'. Carry 10 or 15 quarters with you so that you can inform the person who is scheduled to pick you up.
