At the first opportunity open a Bank account in USA. Most Universities have some tie up with local banks where students are given special privileges like discounts and hassle free paperwork. Apply for one and only one credit card. Usually people do not get credit cards without a credit history but again the bank in your University town will treat you differently and you should get a credit card from the bank where you opened your account. Protect your checkbook and ATM cards.
